36th Annual Food Drive

Daily News Food Drive in conjunction with City Harvest

October 26, 2016, through January 13, 2017. All 53 Apple Bank branches in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items that will provide much-needed sustenance during the holiday season for the nearly 1.4 million New Yorkers facing hunger.  Apple Bank for Savings will be participating as a Community Partner. Visit  www.applebank.com  to find the New York City branch location nearest you.

The Daily News Food drive is New York City’s largest annual holiday food drive, which last year amassed one million pounds of food to feed thousands of New York City families for an entire winter.  The Daily News and City Harvest will launch the Kids Can Help Competition again this year for all participating public schools in the city.  The school in each borough which collects the most pounds will be awarded a prize. Last year, schools collected over 275,000 pounds of food.

Lisa Sposato, City Harvest’s Director of Food Sourcing, said, “Nearly one in five New Yorkers aren’t able to put meals on the table regularly for their families, and City Harvest is committed to delivering 55 million pounds of nutritious food this year to help feed our neighbors in need. New Yorkers collected one million pounds of food for the Daily News Food Drive last year, and this drive is critical each year for helping our network of soup kitchens and food pantries keep their shelves stocked over the winter months. We appreciate Apple Bank’s support, which helps ensure that hungry New Yorkers have enough food this holiday season.”
