Forest Restoration Workshop in the Egbertville Ravine @ Egbertville Ravine

Our 262nd workshop. Meet at the entrance to the White Trail (on Meisner Avenue opposite the Bluebelt dam close to the intersection of Manor Road and Rockland Avenue). In order to preserve the wildflowers along the section of trail leading toward Nevada Avenue, we will pull and bag garlic-mustard and possibly remove multiflora rose. Neighborhood Nature Series, Huguenot in Huguenot, Staten Island
A continuation of guided exploration in the greenest borough.

There is nature in every neighborhood on Staten Island and Protectors of Pine Oak Woods President Cliff Hagen is the guide for this exploration of Huguenot. Participants meet in the center of the town of Huguenot, at the intersection of Amboy Road and Huguenot Avenue. Walk the local streets and watch for the busy activity of squirrels and blue jays, search for late migrating birds, butterflies and dragonflies and try to identify aged trees based on bark, colorful foliage, and leaf litter. Participants will ascend the steep trails to look at the serpentine outcrops and unique community of plants that manage to live here, as well as relish the marvelous views across the bay. From this walk, participants will view why hillside preservation zoning is an important issue. Note that some of these trails may be difficult.
