First Day Hike at Mt. Loretto Unique Area

Tuesday, January 1, 201910:00 – 11:30am

Meet in the main parking lot on Hylan Blvd. Enjoy a leisurely winter walk along the gentle slopes of the grassland trail. Visit the wildlife platform overlooking the freshwater ponds as well as the newly constructed Mount Loretto Pavilion overlooking the Raritan Bay. Annual Beach Walk

Tuesday, January 1, 201912:00 – 1:30pm

The Annual Beach Walk takes place on Tuesday, January 1, 2019. We meet at the entrance to Great Kills Park, Gateway National Recreation Area. We will carpool out to the 2nd beach house. After a brief introduction, NRPA will lead us to the beach with an explanation of shoreline ecology, including sand movement and intertidal zone. We will walk south east to Crookes Point jetty to toast in the New Year and plan activities together. Then we will walk towards the Harbor, looking for birds and picking up trash. After viewing the harbor, we head back to the parking lot. Walk totals about 1.5 miles and concludes by 1:30 PM.
