The streets will be closed to traffic and open for fun!

Saturday, October 13, 2018 — 11:00am – 3:00pm.

Bay Street between Water Street and Vanderbilt Avenue (Stapleton), Staten Island

Stapleton will be buzzing on Saturday, October 13, when the first-ever “Downtown Staten Island Weekend Walk” kicks off at 11:00am.  Bay Street between Water Street and Vanderbilt Avenue will be closed to traffic and open for fun.

The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce Foundation, through the NYC Dept. of Transportation’s Weekend Walks program, is working with businesses in the neighborhood to present a festive good time, as the streets are turned into a public plaza for the day.

“We just wrapped up our 2018 Stapleton Storefront Enhancement Grant Program in the area, and we’re so happy to invite people to come to see all the wonderful improvements.  With restored facades, new signage and lighting, colorful planters and more, this strip is really on the upswing,” said Chamber President Linda Baran.

She added, “It’s turning into something of a ‘restaurant row’ here, with Vinum Wine Bar, andTaverna on the Bay, and The Richmond joining Amendment 18.  They’ll all have sidewalk cafes set up outside on October 13, so come hungry!”

There will be something for everyone to enjoy, including:

·       Musical entertainment

·       A BMX bike and scooter demonstration

·       “Giant” games to play like Connect 4, Jenga, and a Life-Size Chess set

·       Cornhole and Pong tournaments

·       And more …

And — for the first time ever on Staten Island — the Staten Island Stickball team will take on the Brooklyn Stickball team in an exhibition match at 1:00pm.  Some “Hall of Famers” will be playing.

Plus, Council Member Debi Rose is holding her annual Community Fair in Tappen Park right nearby at the same time — so it’s double the fun!
