Tibetan Art, Tibetan Buddhism, and the Relationship between Buddhism and the Environment are the themes of our March and April events. Visit the Museum in the next few weeks, and join on April 29th at the College of Staten Island for a very special event with His Holiness the Sakya Trizin.  Please note, the Museum will be closed on Sunday, March 27th.

Tai Chi: Tai Chi Class With Bob Murphy.
Date/Time: Saturday, March 19th, 4:00 PM
Tai Chi Resumes this Saturday and will be held each Saturday at 4:00PM in the Museum’s garden. Please wear layered clothing and sneakers.
Admission: $12/$10 for Members.

Film: Yangsi: A documentary by Mark Elliot.
Date/Time: Sunday, March 20th, 2:00 PM
This film offers an intimate portrait of a young Tibetan boy who is recognized as the reincarnation of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, one of the most revered Tibetan Buddhist masters of the 20th century.

Special Event: Art Show and Presentation by Tibetan Artist Tashi Norbu
Date/Time: Sunday, March 20th, 4:00 PM
Tashi Norbu is a Tibetan born contemporary artist who lives and works in the Netherlands. He is educated in traditional thangka painting, and he is also trained as western artist. His art shows the fundamentals of his background, Tibet and Buddhism, combined with strong influences from western art forms, ideas, and icons of modern times.

Meditation: Please join us for a meditation class with Ven. Thupten Phuntsok.
Date/Time: Saturday, March 26th, 11:30 AM
Meditation is held every Saturday Morning at 11:30 AM.

Film: Blindsight
Date/Time: Saturday, March 26th, 2:00 PM
Blindsight is a the story of a group of six Tibetan teenagers who set out to climb the 23,000 foot Lhakpa Ri on the north side of Mt. Everest. This feat is even more remarkable as all of the teenagers are blind.

Special Event: Tibetan Buddhism, Karma and Reincarnation — A Lecture by Professor Annabella Pitkin.
Date/Time: Saturday, April 2nd, 1:30 – 2:30 PM
Dr. Pitkin is Assistant Professor of Buddhism and East Asian Religions at Lehigh University, where she is also a core faculty member in the Asian Studies Program. Her current research focuses on Tibetan Buddhist modernity, Buddhist ideals of renunciation, miracle narratives, and Buddhist biographies.

Film: Two Short Documentaries: Searching for the Sacred Mountain andShielding the Mountains.
Date/Time: Sunday, April 3rd and Sunday, April 17th at 2:00 PM.
Both of these short films (20 minuted each) focus on the relationship between Tibetan Buddhism and the Environment.

Film: Mystery Monkeys of Shangri La.
Date/Time: Sunday April 10th and Sunday April 24th, 2:00 PM
This film is the true story of a family of snub-nosed monkeys living in the highest forests in the world. This is a unique monkey society, formed in response to the hardships of the Himalayas.

Special Event: Lecture by His Holiness Sakya Trizin on The Relationship Between Buddhism and the Environment.
Date/Time/Place: Friday, April 29th, 4:00 PM, College of Staten Island, Center for the Arts.
His Holiness the 41st Sakya Trizin is the is the supreme head of the Sakya School, which is one of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Born in Tibet in 1945, His Holiness belongs to the ancient and distinguished Khön family, whose history extends back over 1500 years. The Sakya Order is one of the four major traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. Since its establishment nearly 1000 years ago, it has produced a long line of great scholars and spiritual masters. The Sakya doctrine includes the full range of the enormous variety of the Buddha’s teachings.
