offer a new basic reading group on Fridays from 10:00-11:30 am at the St.
George Adult Learning Center.

This teacher-led group works best for adults who are native speakers of
English, or who are advanced English speakers who only struggle with
literacy. This group goes up to a third-grade reading level.

Tavern Terrace Outdoor Concert Series

Beer, barbecue, and live music all summer long!

Staten Island’s biggest backyard barbecue returns for another fun-filled season at Historic Richmond Town’s Main Village site. The Tavern Terrace will be open for the season beginning May 31. The Tavern Terrace Beer Garden features a selection of hand-crafted ales and lagers from Staten Island’s famed Flagship Brewery, and delectable smoked classics from Corner House BBQ, winner of the People’s Choice Award at the KCBS BBQ Cook-off and Uncorked!

The Terrace will be open Friday and Saturday evenings all summer long, featuring live music each Saturday! The Tavern Terrace at Historic Richmond Town is fun for the entire family!

Bring a blanket and have a picnic! Enjoy classic outdoor games and cool down at Egger’s Ice Cream Parlor with a sweet treat!

Observing: Floyd Bennett Field

Observing: Floyd Bennett Field

The AAA meets monthly on Friday nights for stargazing at Floyd Bennett Field in Gateway National Park, Brooklyn.  We meet every month except January and February when it’s just too cold, and in July and August, when we have a problem with mosquitoes (in other warm months, come but bring a repellent).  Events are canceled if it is overcast or if the temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Saturday Zoofaris

The Staten Island Zoo is happy to introduce our Saturday Zoofari program. We have created six exciting programs for children in PreK through 6th grade. This is a four hour (10am – 2pm) drop off program at the zoo.

Please pack a lunch for the day. There is no refrigeration for the lunches at the zoo so the lunches need to be non-perishable.

You can register for any number of sessions or all six! There is a 15% discount on the total price if you register for all six sessions.

Ghostlight Production’s 1776 – America’s Musical @ Richmond Town County Courthouse

1776 is a musical with music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and a book by Peter Stone. The story is based on the events surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It dramatizes the efforts of John Adams to persuade his colleagues to vote for American independence and to sign the document.

Snug Harbor Garden Tours: Perennial Garden and Carl Grillo Glass House

Experience Snug Harbor’s gardens in a whole new way this summer! Choose your own adventure: a tour, a workshop, or a tour + workshop combo.

Perennials vary in lifespan from three to fifty years, creating a dynamic environment which changes with each year’s growing cycle. Explore the beauty of the ever-changing Perennial Garden at the height of its season. Then, visit the Carl Grillo Glass House, a space that is typically closed to the public. Built on the site of the original Sailors’ Snug Harbor greenhouse, the 2,800-square-foot enclosure is used for propagation and exhibition of rare and beautiful plants.

“Stargazing returns to Riverside Park South in front of Pier i Cafe at 70th Street down on the Hudson River waterfront.  A summer evening in Manhattan is made complete with a great skyline and the stars, planets and Moon in full view.  Manhattan provides a great backdrop as we peer heavenward to see celestial wonders!”

Movies Under the Stars: Thor: Dark World @ Hylan Boulevard and Satterlee Street (in Conference House Park)

Join NYC Parks and the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment for a free film. Thor must team up with his mischievous brother Loki in order to defeat a Dark Elf who’s plotting to destroy all of existence. Meanwhile, his true love Jane Foster is possessed by a cosmic force. Know Before You Go You should arrive before 8:30 p.m. to get your spot. Feel free to bring a blanket to sit on; there will be a limited supply of chairs available. Bottled water is OK, but no glass. Reservations are not taken; space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. All are welcome!

All runs are directed by volunteers and are free to all participants. The finish line is open until the last person is done. The courses vary based on the park, but the courses are between 2.5 and 3 miles long. Participants are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the run and to leave their valuables at home – bag check is not provided. No need to do anything before the run, just show up. Open to all ages, experience levels, walkers, strollers, dogs: All are welcome! This program is in coordination with NYC Parks’ Community Parks Initiative.

Beach Life: From South Beach to Tottenville! @ Hh Biddle House

A history of the beach communities that flourished on Staten Island. Take a trip back in time to the summers of fun that were experienced at South and Midland Beaches, Cedar Grove, Tottenville, Prince’s Bay and other shoreline havens. Historic hotels, amusements, beer gardens, and more will be highlighted. This program is in support of the Tottenville Historical Society.
