LEAVE THE BEATEN PATH BEHIND AND PAVE YOUR OWN TRAIL: CELEBRATE NATIONAL TRAILS DAY WITH NYC PARKS’ SEVEN NEW TRAIL MAPS. NYC Parks is celebrating National Trails Day on June 1, 2019, by launching more than a half dozen new trail maps. Now, you can conveniently plan your journey by visiting our hiking trails page and map out your adventure. With 300 miles of trails, our public green spaces are the prime location for those seeking serene views, natural landscapes, and adventure. Hikers will be able to explore natural areas, glacial potholes, forests and more. Join the Urban Park Rangers on a hiking tour in each of the five boroughs as part of their 40th anniversary
While trekking through these beautiful parks, you’ll come across all kinds of wildlife, from the majestic ospreys nesting high up on utility poles to turtles sunbathing on rocks in the ponds. Along the way, you can also visit historic places that give a glimpse of Old New York and tell the story of our city. New hiking trail maps include:
- Riverdale Park, Bronx
- Canarsie Park, Brooklyn
- Paerdegat Basin Park, Brooklyn
- Bayswalter Park, Queens
- Forest Park, Queens
- Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens
- Goodhue Park, Staten Island
In addition to the new trail maps, we will also be offering hikes throughout the city. Among these options, our expert Urban Park Rangers will be leading tailored hiking tours in each of the five boroughs as part of their 40th-anniversary celebration.
Ranger-led hikes will include:
- National Trails Day Hike: Manhattan – Inwood Hill Park
at Isham Street and Seamna Avenue
Saturday, June 1
11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
The hike will feature the Overlook, “bird alley”, and rock shelters at Inwood Hill Park.
National Trails Day Hike: Queens –Forest Park
at “My Buddy Monument”
Saturday, June 1
11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Take a hike and explore through the wonders of Forest Park.
National Trails Day Hike: Staten Island– Conference House Park
at Satterlee Street and Hylan Boulevard
Saturday, June 1
11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
This hike will feature Conference House Park on the southernmost point in New York State.
- National Trails Day Hike: Bronx – Van Cortlandt Park
at Mosholu Avenue and Broadway
Saturday, June 1
1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Follow the Cass Gallagher trail and explore the North Woods of Van Cortlandt Park.

at 88th Street and Seaview Avenue
