Changes to SNAP Stopped

Note that the April 1 change to SNAP (food stamps) has been postponed. From the Tisch site:

Work Requirements: H.R. 6201 suspends the work and work training requirements for able-bodied dependents without disabilities (ABAWDs) that was supposed to go into effect on April 1.

The work and work training requirements are suspended in the first month following enactment through the end of the month following the public health emergency. SNAP usages during the suspension will not count towards ABAWDs’ three-month SNAP allowance.

Who’s Open or Closed (as of 4/11/2020)

The organizations below confirmed that they’re open. City Harvest and Food Bank for New York City are still making deliveries to pantries on Staten Island. Assume that most pantries are still open but call before you go. See the alphabetized list of pantries for all pantry phone numbers and hours.

Restaurants and other food stores that are closing and want to donate food can connect with a pantry or soup kitchen by emailing us or by posting on Facebook. For information about proper packaging and food safety, see City Harvest’s Food Donor Q&A. (City Harvest currently requires 3,000 lbs of food for a pickup. If you don’t have 3,000 pounds of food, don’t worry–you can work directly with a local pantry or soup kitchen.)

If you would like to donate food through the City, click here on nyc.gov/donatefood.

Food Pantries & Soup Kitchens

Look for food pantries in your ZIP Code:

Note: Please check hours and arrive at least half an hour before the pantry or kitchen closes. Most pantries and kitchens are staffed by volunteers who need to be able to leave on time. Thanks!
