Staten Island NYC CANVAS INSTITUTE FALL/WINTER 2018 UPCOMING EVENTS

Calling all poets, rappers, writers, and anyone looking to express themselves through words. Blank Canvas, Spoken Word Trilogy, is a three-part workshop where we will be providing tools and activities to get you writing and sharing. The event is donation-based, no previous experience is needed, simply come with a blank page or a poem you wish to work on. There will be an open mic at the end if you desire to share.

Island Voice & Canvas Institute is excited to announce our first partnership with The Public Theater. The Public Theater’s mobile unit is bringing Shakespeare to Staten Island. The show will be held at PS 57 Hubert H Humphrey (140 Palma Dr.) on Saturday, October 13th from 2-4pm. All ages welcome. Snacks will be provided after the show (you may also bring your own). We look forward to seeing you there!

YOGA SATURDAYS AT 10AM 
Classes are every second Saturday from 10 – 11am with Annette. They are child-friendly and community focused! Mothers bring your kids. Mats and blocks are provided. ☆ ALL levels & all ages welcome! This class is for YOU, we adapt it to so everyone feels comfortable – classes include grounding techniques, basic qigong tapping, stretching and sound healing ☆

CANVAS COMMUNITY BOOK CLUB 
Please join us over the course of the next three months in discussing three books written at different historical points in time: Invisible ManThe Souls of Black Folk and The Hate U Give .
All three books are a deep and rich exploration of race and American history. Join us as we take a look at the intersection of history and the present and what these three books can teach us today.
