Historic Richmond Town Juneteenth Celebration

Visit Historic Richmond Town to honor Juneteenth, featuring a day of special programs, including demonstrations of hearth cooking, discussions of social history, and historical reenactment.
The centerpiece of the day’s events is the Juneteenth Reenactment by the Freedom Players, which re-creates the enforcement of General Orders No. 3 in Galveston, Texas in June of 1865. This immersive theatrical performance will happen at the center of Historic Richmond Town’s main village.

- Understanding Enslaved Tinsmiths – learn about enslaved tinsmiths in North America at the Tin Shop
- Jumping the Broom (Kruser-Finley House)
- Liberty and Liberators – discussions of the Underground Railroad and Abolitionist history on Staten Island at the Stephens-Black House
Harriet Tubman Purple Hat Society’s 8th Annual Juneteenth Celebration

The Harriet Tubman Purple Hat Society continues its tradition of honoring Juneteenth with its annual celebration. This year’s event will highlight the contributions of community advocates, including Daisy Olivencia Gregg, Minister Robert Perkins, Tonya Harrell, Neil Berry, Paulette Crosland, and Nancy Ashon-Poku.

– **Daisy Olivencia Gregg:** A dedicated educational professional and community leader.
– **Minister Robert Perkins:** A community leader known for his work with youth and reentry programs.
– **Tonya Harrell:** Founder of “The Community Dinner Ministry” and a tireless advocate for the homeless.
