Visit Historic Richmond Town to honor Juneteenth, featuring a day of special programs, including demonstrations of hearth cooking, discussions of social history, and historical reenactment.

The centerpiece of the day’s events is the Juneteenth Reenactment by the Freedom Players, which re-creates the enforcement of General Orders No. 3 in Galveston, Texas in June of 1865. This immersive theatrical performance will happen at the center of Historic Richmond Town’s main village.

  • An Island of Oystermen – Basket Making demonstration and discussion of the Oyster industry and oyster restauranteurs of color at the Basket Maker’s House
  • But No Man of Colour- Discussion of voter rights in New York State at the Guyon Tavern
  • Understanding Enslaved Tinsmiths – learn about enslaved tinsmiths in North America at the Tin Shop
  • Jumping the Broom (Kruser-Finley House)
  • Liberty and Liberators – discussions of the Underground Railroad and Abolitionist history on Staten Island at the Stephens-Black House

The Harriet Tubman Purple Hat Society continues its tradition of honoring Juneteenth with its annual celebration. This year’s event will highlight the contributions of community advocates, including Daisy Olivencia Gregg, Minister Robert Perkins, Tonya Harrell, Neil Berry, Paulette Crosland, and Nancy Ashon-Poku.

### Honorees at the Event

– **Daisy Olivencia Gregg:** A dedicated educational professional and community leader.
– **Minister Robert Perkins:** A community leader known for his work with youth and reentry programs.
– **Tonya Harrell:** Founder of “The Community Dinner Ministry” and a tireless advocate for the homeless.
– **Neil Berry:** An executive board member of the Staten Island NAACP and advocate for human rights.
– **Paulette Crosland:** A member of various community organizations dedicated to service and support.
– **Nancy Ashon-Poku:** Former educator and president of the Harriet Tubman Purple Hat Society.
