Earth Day 2016 Project: North Shore Waterfront Conservancy’s “Bag It Where You Stand, Bag It Wherever You Go!” A Staten Island-Wide Litter Clean Up

10866237_758509587596869_1468630549197532261_oEarth Day needs to be a lot more personal for each of us, so that we are truly invested in keeping our Island, neighborhoods and waterways clean.

On Earth Day, the North Shore Waterforont Conservancy is asking that Staten Islanders pocket 2 unused garbage bags and 2 unused recycling bags and every where that you go and you spot litter you bag it, until you fill up your bags disposing of it at your final destination. They are also asking that you take a selfie of you and your recycling and garbage booty and post it on your social media page.

If in your travels you pick up an enormous amount at a particular location call 311 and tell them you just did a clean up and where Sanitation can find the garbage and recycling bags by giving the street intersection. Remember to take your selfie, also remember to be safe and be responsible.

They are also asking that all schools, businesses and city, state agencies and authorities on Staten Island participate too.

Landscape of the Lenape: Park Walk Celebrate Earth Day weekend at Conference House Park with a guided walk April 23rd

The Lenape (len-AH-pay) or Delaware Indians lived in an area they called “Lenapehoking,” which means “Land of the Lenape.” Their land included all of what is now New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, southeastern New York State, northern Delaware, and a small section of southeastern Connecticut. As part of the Eastern Woodlands, Lenapehoking had many rivers, streams and lakes and was densely forested and rich in wildlife.

Learn about the natural landscape and flora that these first native New Yorkers might have encountered in NYC’s southern most park.
