Join the Freshkills Park Alliance and the NYCMTB for a thrilling mountain bike ride at Freshkills Park! This ride takes you behind the scenes to explore areas currently closed to the public. You’ll navigate the woods, wetlands, and grasslands of Freshkills Park on your mountain bike.

Note: All riders must provide their own mountain bike and helmet. Helmets are required to enter and ride on DSNY property. Register here!

City of Water Day: Wetland Stewardship

Join us for a volunteer wetland cleanup at Freshkills Park. Volunteers will learn the basics of water monitoring, the importance of invasive plant management, and ways to protect our local environments. Register here!

City of Water Day: AIANY Industrial Waterway Tour to Freshkills Park

Date: Saturday, July 13th, 9:45 AM

On this 3.25-hour fully narrated tour, cruise the Kill Van Kull waterway to Freshkills Park aboard a luxury yacht. Co-hosted by the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter (AIANY) and Freshkills Park planners, this is the only public water tour into the Fresh Kills waterway. Witness the transformation of Freshkills Park, the largest landfill-to-park project in the world.

City of Water Day: Urban Park Rangers Youth Bird Walk in North Park

Join the Urban Park Rangers for a Youth Bird Walk in North Park of Freshkills Park. Identify and learn about various birds within the park. This program is geared towards children and families but is open to all.

Explore the winged creatures of Freshkills Park on this guided walk. Learn about osprey, egrets, herons, dragonflies, and more. Discover the importance of wetlands and how we can protect them. Register here!

City of Water Day: Kayak Tour

Celebrate City of Water Day with a kayak tour along Freshkills Park’s waterways. This two-mile round-trip paddle offers a chance to explore the creeks and shorelines while experiencing the wildlife. Due to high demand and limited staff, trips are generally limited to weekends during high tide. Register here!

Sunset Photography Tour

Date: Monday, July 22nd, 6:30 PM

Join a small group of photographers to document Freshkills Park’s transformation from landfill to a 2,200-acre park. This guided tour offers unique photo opportunities of the engineered landscape while the site is closed to the public. Open to photographers of all skill levels, but you must bring your own equipment. Register here!

Kayak Tour

Date: Sunday, July 28th, 2:00 PM

Enjoy another chance to kayak along Freshkills Park’s waterways. This two-mile round-trip paddle allows you to explore the creeks and shorelines of the park. Due to high demand and limited staff, registration opens on July 14th at 1:30 PM. Register here!

Mark your calendars for The Great Gobbler II Bike Race, presented by the New York City Mountain Bike Association and the Freshkills Park Alliance. This race features over 45 miles of course, hills, views, and wildlife. Categories include gravel bike, mountain bike, adaptive bike, fixed gears, pedal assist, and a family fun ride. Register here!
