Shoreline Parks Plan

A Plan for the East Shore of Staten Island

Sunny day at a Staten Island beach

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has proposed the construction of a protective seawall from Fort Wadsworth to Great Kills Park. Recognizing the effect this important project will have on our parkland, NYC Parks is developing the Shoreline Parks Plan to guide the adaptation of our shoreline parks to this flood protection. We are seeking input from the community through this planning process.

Community Meeting

Join us on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to provide your input on the plan to adapt our parks to the Army Corps’ proposed seawall.

Plan Timeline

Understanding the urgency of flood protection for this community, the Shoreline Parks Plan project is scheduled to keep pace with the Army Corps’ timeline. The Plan process began with a kick-off public meeting in fall 2015, and we aim to produce the final Shoreline Parks Plan in summer 2016.

About the Seawall

The US Army Corps of Engineers released in June 2015 their plans to construct a protective seawall on Staten Island’s East Shore. Visit the Army Corps’ website to find out more about the project.

Public Meetings

Thank you to all those who attended our kick-off public meeting on September 24, 2015. We heard many great ideas about how best to adapt our parks to the Army Corps’ seawall project, from ensuring access points serve adjacent neighborhoods, to replacing bathrooms in sensible locations, to providing safe and continuous bike access.

Our next public meeting will be held on January 21, 2016, and will ask for your feedback on our conceptual design for these shoreline parks. We will have a final public meeting in spring 2016 to share more detailed designs for specific project sites.
