Spring Programs at the Tibetan Museum

We look forward to seeing you at the Tibetan Museum for some of our upcoming programs.
Saturday, March 31, 11:30 AM -2:00 PMThe Mindful Book: 10 Essential Secrets You Need to Know to Write and Publish a Book, By Dorothy Holterman.
Dorothy Holterman, founder of Birth-A-Book, author, and expert coach, will speak about how mindfulness can help set the stage to write and self-publish a book. She will be inspiring and share ten essential tips to know right now on how to proceed to accomplish the goal with more focus, comfort, and success. The day will begin with Venerable Thupten Phuntsok offering a unique meditation on how to harness creativity and execute a creative project. Attendees will enjoy a rare opportunity to probe the extraordinary treasures found in the Museum library. The fee for this event is $45. Guests will enjoy a gorgeous vegan catered lunch by the author, Renee Raia.  All participants will also receive a gift certificate good for one tai chi or meditation class in April or May. Easter Sunday, April 1 – The Tibetan Museum will be closed for the Easter Holiday

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, April 4, 5 and 6, 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM:Spring Break at the Tibetan Museum.
Join us for special family programming, arts and crafts, and on Thursday, April 5th at 1:00 PM there will be a special slideshow about the Museum Travel Group’s recent trip to Japan. Free Admission all week.

SPECIAL VISIT FROM LAMA KARMA NAMGYAL RINPOCHE
Friday, April 6, 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Buddha of Compassion Teaching.
Karma Rinpoche will speak about Chenrezig, the “Buddha of Compassion” and his message of love and compassion and his ability to provide comfort and healing during times of suffering. He will lead us in chanting the Chenrezig mantra for the benefit of all sentient beings. This event is free. Please RSVP to the Museum.

Saturday, April 710:00 AM – 1;00 PMChenrezig Buddha of Compassion Fire Ceremony
The Chenrezig Buddha of Compassion Fire Ceremony is a sacred ritual in Vajrayana Buddhism which invokes the power of the deity. The fire ceremony purifies obstacles and negativity, offering healing to us and our world. During the fire ceremony, food and medicinal herbs are offered to the fire while Rinpoche chants and recites special prayers. All attendees participate by making offerings to the fire. The fire ceremony is outdoors, so please dress for the weather. Suggested Donation – $20. RSVP to the Museum. To sponsor a fire ceremony is a great honor. Sunday, April 8, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM:  Vajrapani, Hayagriva, Garuda Empowerment
In response to the many environmental catastrophes afflicting  many areas of the US, this past year and more, Khenpo Karma Namgyal Rinpoche will offer the Tacha Chung Sum Blessing Empowerment which combines three powerful protective tantric deities – Vajrapani, Hayagriva, and Garuda – in one. This empowerment will help heal and protect the country and its inhabitants, as a whole, and the New York area in particular. Suggested donation $20. RSVP tothe Museum. Suggested donation $20.

Sunday April 8, 3:00 PM-6:00 PM:  Medicine Buddha Teaching and Empowerment 
The aspiration of Medicine Buddha is to remove all physical, mental, and emotional suffering. Practicing Medicine Buddha will help balance the four elements of fire, earth, air, and water. When we recite the Medicine Buddha prayer and engage in meditation practice we receive Medicine Buddha’s blessings and help heal the imbalanced state within ourselves and the world. RSVP to the Museum. Suggested donation $20.

There will be no meditation and tai chi this weekend.

The Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art was established in 1947 to preserve and share the art, culture and cultural traditions of Tibet and the Himalayas to a world audience. The holds a collection of artifacts, objects, thankgas, books, and photographs and exhibits the collection both on-site and in traveling exhibits. The Museum presents cultural programming, Himalayan dance, lectures, films, meditation and tai chi on a weekly basis. The Museum is open to the public Wednesday – Sunday from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM and by appointment for groups.

Public programming at the Museum is sponsored, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and Councilmembers Steve Matteo, Debi Rose, and Joseph Borelli. Additional programmatic support is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
