Summer 2023 in Historic Richmondtown Staten Island.Step back in time with us! The open air museum is abuzz with living history, demonstrated by costumed historical interpreters in structures throughout the site. Daily programs include talks and demonstrations of trades, political life in the 19th century, and the evolution of 1850s fashions. General Admission includes access to the Historical Museum.

Experience the American Revolution as it happened in Richmond County! Watch as Living Historians demonstrate military drills, weapons, and historic skills, hear stories about soldiers and civilians, and learn about what life was like during the American Revolution in New York.

Field of Flags | May 29-July 4A field full of American flags.We are proud to salute our American heroes in a striking outdoor tribute on display between Memorial Day and Independence Day. Sponsor a flag in honor of active-duty service members or veterans, in memory of fallen loved ones, or in celebration of our nation’s independence. The names of individuals recognized or remembered by flags will be displayed in Historic Richmond Town’s Visitor Center, as well as online.

English Country Dance | June 14 & 28 | 7:30-9:30pm

 

Learn tWatercolor sketch of 19th century dancers.he art of the classic social dance developed in England through the 18th century. This program is offered to novices and experienced dancers alike, and is open to all ages.

Juneteenth Celebration | Sun. June 18 | 11am-5pm

Visit Historic Richmond Town for a day of special programs, including demonstrations of hearth cooking, discussions of social history, and historical reenactment. Learn about the history and origins of this holiday celebrating the end of American chattel slavery.

Independence Day Weekend | Sat. & Sun. July 1 & 2 | 10am-4pm

Celebrate our nation’s independence with old fashioned family fun! MeetMen dressed in historical costume stand in a line playing the fife and drums. costumed interpreters and living historians portraying soldiers, tradespeople, and founding fathers. Sign your name to a copy of the Declaration of Independence. Enjoy food, music, demonstrations of 19th century fireworks, a balloon launch, and Revolutionary era musket demonstrations.

 

 

 

 

 

Summer Apprentice Program | Ages 12-15
July 10-14 | July 17-21 | July 31-August 4 | August 7-11

In an immersive, hands-on experience, students work with artisans to build their skills at an historic trade and create one-of-a-kind, hand crafted items. Instructors provide one-on-one support and attention to participants and apprentices are led in historical, recreational activities in addition to their time in their historic trade shops.

For 42 years, Historic Richmond Town has hosted the Richmond County Fair, and we are honored to welcome everyone to enjoy the best of Staten Island. Also, it is our most important fundraiser of the year, and your ticket to the Richmond County Fair directly supports Historic Richmond Town in its mission to preserve and share our local history.
