Bored at home? Want to earn some volunteering hours for school? Well, you came to the right place! Here are events and places where you can volunteer and give back to your community.

First up. If you love museums, this place could be the right place for you. Staten Island Children’s Museum offers volunteering opportunities for teens 14+. You would have the chance to experience what it is like to work at a museum, develop many skills relating to leadership, responsibility, and communication, assist different museum departments, as well as gain community service hours. You must submit a completed Museum Volunteer Program Interest Form and have a completed personal reference form filled out by an adult who is familiar to you, other than your parents or friends. You must also be on the email registry to receive notifications of volunteer opportunities. Second, on the list is a place that would be perfect for animal lovers. Staten Island Zoo also provides volunteer opportunities. You must fill out an application and have a chance to be interviewed on the spot for several volunteer positions. Different positions available is animal husbandry in Children’s Center which is only for people 16+, special events crew which is for people 14+, as well as animal nutrition for people 18+. If you want to volunteer at a food pantry or assist with meal preparations, Project Hospitality might be right for you. Project Hospitality provides Food and Nutrition services through Soup Kitchens and Food Pantries. Volunteers will have the chance to assist with meal preparation, service, and clean-up, take clients shopping in the food pantry, tutor, assist with recreational activities, as well as take care of children in the homeless family shelter. Volunteers will also have the chance to help with the meal and clothing pantry services in the homeless Drop-In Center, help serve Wednesday evening Positive Living Dinner for Staten Island’s HIV+ community, assist with planning and implementing community and fundraising events, as well as provide clerical help to programs and administrative office. Want to put your crochet skills to use? Love knitting and crocheting – being a knit or crochet tutor would be right for you. New Dorp Library wants to host a volunteer-led knitting or crocheting program once a week, twice a month, or once a month on Thursdays from 12pm to 1pm. Want something to do on the weekends? Want to help the community and the environment? Blue Wave  – Buckets for Blue: Volunteer Cleanup could be right for you. NYC Parks is hosting park cleanups every Sunday and Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm at Conference House Park. Just grab a bucket at the location and start cleaning up a portion of the Park’s 3 mile-shoreline. Remember to invite some friends and families if you are interested!
