9/11 Memorial Ceremony to be held at Postcards Memorial on Staten Island

Ceremony to honor those lost 17 years ago as well as the First Responders who perished subsequently due to their work at Ground Zero

Staten Island, NY –Borough President James Oddo will host the 9/11 Memorial Ceremony to remember the Staten Islanders we lost 17 years ago. The annual ceremony, which is open to the public, will take place at the Postcards memorial on the St. George Esplanade on Tuesday, September 11th at 6:30pm.

This year’s ceremony will also honor the brave First Responders who gave their lives by heroically toiling in and around Ground Zero in those fateful days, months, and even years after that terrible day. Their names are inscribed on a memorial adjacent to the Postcards memorial, which was dedicated last year.

The ceremony will include a reading of the names of the Staten Islanders who were lost on 9/11, as well as a reading of the names of the First Responders who have perished since that day due to their work at Ground Zero. Special musical selections and a video tribute will honor those we lost due to the tragedy.

“Seventeen years ago, our lives changed forever. We will never forget those we lost that day, and it is my honor to continue to hold this ceremony dedicated to remembering those who were taken from us far too soon,” said BP Oddo. “This year, we will also acknowledge the memory and sacrifice of our First Responders by dedicating a special portion of the ceremony to them. Together, we remember all those we lost. I ask all Staten Islanders—including those who did not lose loved ones—to join us to honor their memories and provide support for their families and friends.”

Free parking for the ceremony will be available in the New York Wheel Parking Garage (located next to Richmond County Bank Ballpark at Richmond Terrace and Nicholas Street). Those who wish to attend can also access the memorial via the walkway adjacent to the ballpark.
