City of Water Day: Sunset Kayak Tour
Kayak along Freshkills Park’s waterways! This two-mile round-trip paddle is a chance to explore the creeks and shorelines of Freshkills Park
Saturday, July 15 · 6 – 8:30pm EDT
Location
Freshkills Park 350 Wild Avenue Staten Island, NY 10314
At 2,200 acres, Freshkills Park will be almost three times the size of Central Park and the largest park developed in New York City in over 100 years. Free tours offer insights into ongoing development and unmatched views, and recreational programs provide opportunities to experience the hills and waterways before the park officially opens.
Celebrate City of Water Day and kayak along Freshkills Park’s waterways! This two-mile round-trip paddle is a chance to explore the creeks and shorelines of Freshkills Park and experience the wildlife while the site is closed to the public. We know this program fills quickly and wish to offer it more frequently. But we have a small staff and are generally limited to trips on the weekend during high tide.
There is a $20 suggested donation per participant. Your gift supports education, programming, and research at the Freshkills Park Alliance and makes programs like this possible.
Your ticket admits 1 car. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, all participants must provide their own car that will stay on-site the whole time. Participants may not use a bicycle, taxi, or ride-share service. Each ticket holder may bring up to 3 additional guests in their car. During registration, you will be asked about additional participants in your car. Due to limited reservations, carpooling with friends and family is encouraged. An adult must accompany all participants under 18.
Location provided with confirmation email: We will meet and caravan onto the Freshkills Park site together.
Plan Ahead: Wear sturdy shoes that you don’t mind getting wet or muddy and clothes that can get wet. Please also bring water and sunblock. Kayaks and life jackets will be provided. You will be asked to sign an activity waiver before participating in the program. Do not attend if you are sick or have been exposed to COVID-19.
