 FREE Guided Nature Walks and Talks on Staten Island organized by Protectors of Pine Oak Woods 

Protectors of Pine Oak Woods is committed to increasing the stewardship of Staten Island’s existing parkland, bluebelt corridors, and nature preserves and to continuing the effort to preserve Staten Island’s natural areas. Protectors advocates for protection and preservation by educating our members, the general public and elected officials at all levels of government through meetings, workshops, walks, articles, newsletters, and sponsorship of environmental education.

The winter 10-miler begins at the Greenbelt Nature Center, Staten Island, NY winds its way through LaTourette Park before returning to the Nature Center. Participants will explore the heart of Staten Island while enjoying Superbowl Sunday with an invigorating loop hike in the Greenbelt with Protectors. A winter walk through the snow-capped slopes of the Greenbelt with Protectors allows inquisitive visitors to experience local wildlife while gaining knowledge of the natural world. This 2nd Saturday Workshop meets in the Nevada Avenue parking lot at High Rock Park, Staten Island. If you come late; follow the Yellow Trail and Green Trails to our working location by Manor Road (the trail toward Moses Mountain) where you will root out Multi-flora Rose and Asian Wisteria growing along the trail. If you don’t have your own, Protectors will supply gloves and pruners (and refreshments). After a two-hour work session (the 270th monthly workshop) participants will take a short walk nearby trails.
