In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, food and water will be critical to Puerto Rico’s recovery ahead and City Harvest is collaborating with Feeding America, our sister food bank Banco de Alimentos de Puerto Rico, FEMA, and community partners to rush much needed supplies to the island. We are working hard to ensure that everyone who has been impacted will have nutritious food to eat and clean water to drink. Through a campaign called New Yorkers United, we are inviting the public to donate food, water and personal care items through Tuesday, October 10 at our East 32nd Street offices in Manhattan and at our Food Rescue Facility in Long Island City, Queens, and with community partners across the city. The food we collect will be repacked and transported to Puerto Rico, along with can openers, as quickly as possible.
The most needed items are:
- Canned (pop top only) or pouches of tuna, beans and soups, peanut butter, fruit cups, applesauce, pudding, saltine crackers
- Meal replacement shakes & bars
- Ready-to-feed baby formula
- Cases of water
- Baby and adult diapers
- Personal care items such as deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, baby wipes, and feminine hygiene products
We CANNOT accept any non-food or non-hygiene items, such as clothing, toys, batteries, tools, stuffed animals, etc. If you’d like to donate any of these items, click here for available drop-off locations.
