Visit Freshkills Park for an artist-led observational drawing workshop in Fastnet, a shipping container converted into a studio and project space! This workshop will create a visual awareness of the landscape and foster an understanding of the consequences our actions have on the environment through discussion. Register on Eventbrite . Gardening and Beach Cleanup @ Conference House Park Visitor Center (in Conference House Park)
Volunteer with the Friends of Conference House Park to show some tender loving care to our beloved park. Volunteers will help with gardening preparation and beach cleanup to get the park ready for the summer weather and upcoming events. We look forward to cleaning up the park with you!
Ocean Breeze Green Team Volunteer Days @ Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex (in Ocean Breeze Park)
Join NYC Parks to volunteer in a trail maintenance project at Ocean Breeze Park. Participants will help with invasive weed removal and cutting branches of invasive trees for trail closure. Please note: This event will not meet on Saturday, July 20.
Saturday Morning Walks
Take a stroll with us every Saturday morning throughout the summer. Learn about the flora and fauna in our Park or just get out, get exercise, and enjoy the fresh air! All ages welcome. We will hike at least a mile each week.
Bike Bonanza and Free Helmet Distribution (Staten Island) @ Staten Island South Beach
Join DOT, Recycle-A-Bicycle and Bike New York at this bike bonanza for free, fun activities for the whole family on South Beach at 378 Sand Lane on Staten Island. Come to get fitted for a free helmet, upgrade your child’s bike or have your children learn how to ride for the first time, and more.
• 11am – 2:30pm FREE DOT bike helmet fittings
Helmets are available for all ages. You must be present to get a helmet and you must learn how to properly fit and wear it before you receive it. Adults over 18 receiving a helmet must sign a waiver, and a parent or legal guardian must be present to sign a waiver for children under age 18.
• 11:30am – 2:30pm – Upgrade your child’s bike at RAB Kids Bike Swap

Saturday Zoofaris
The Staten Island Zoo is happy to introduce our Saturday Zoofari program. We have created six exciting programs for children in PreK through 6th grade. This is a four hour (10am – 2pm) drop off program at the zoo.
Please pack a lunch for the day. There is no refrigeration for the lunches at the zoo so the lunches need to be non-perishable.
You can register for any number of sessions or all six! There is a 15% discount on the total price if you register for all six sessions.

Family Camping: Staten Island @ Conference House Park
Camp overnight in NYC’s southernmost park with the Urban Park Rangers! We camp to create lasting memories, connect with the natural world, and bond with our families. Camping affords us the opportunity to unplug from the diversions of everyday life and to laugh and play with our families. Tavern Terrace Outdoor Concert Series
Beer, barbecue, and live music all summer long!
Staten Island’s biggest backyard barbecue returns for another fun-filled season at Historic Richmond Town’s Main Village site. The Tavern Terrace will be open for the season beginning May 31. The Tavern Terrace Beer Garden features a selection of hand-crafted ales and lagers from Staten Island’s famed Flagship Brewery, and delectable smoked classics from Corner House BBQ, winner of the People’s Choice Award at the KCBS BBQ Cook-off and Uncorked!
The Terrace will be open Friday and Saturday evenings all summer long, featuring live music each Saturday! The Tavern Terrace at Historic Richmond Town is fun for the entire family!
Bring a blanket and have a picnic! Enjoy classic outdoor games and cool down at Egger’s Ice Cream Parlor with a sweet treat!

Observing: Lincoln Center NYC
The AAA observes at Lincoln Center every Friday and Saturday evening from April to the middle of August and for several weekends in September. We stargaze on the plaza, just north of the fountain, starting around sunset.

Movies Under the Stars: Avengers: Age of Ultron @ The Meadow at Cedar Grove Park
Join NYC Parks and the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment for a free film. When Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it’s up to Earth’s mightiest heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plan. Know Before You Go You should arrive before 8:30 p.m. to get your spot. Feel free to bring a blanket to sit on; there will be a limited supply of chairs available. Bottled water is OK, but no glass. Reservations are not taken; space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. All are welcome!
NYRR Open Run: Conference House Park @ Visitor Center (in Conference House Park)
Open Run is a community-based, volunteer-led running initiative bringing free weekly runs and walks to local neighborhood parks, across all five boroughs of NYC. All runs are directed by volunteers and are free to all participants. The finish line is open until the last person is done. The courses vary based on the park, but the courses are between 2.5 and 3 miles long. Participants are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the run and to leave their valuables at home – bag check is not provided. No need to do anything before the run, just show up. Open to all ages, experience levels, walkers, strollers, dogs: All are welcome! This program is in coordination with NYC Parks’ Community Parks Initiative.

Nature Center Adventures: Blue Heron Park @ Blue Heron Nature Center (in Blue Heron Park)
Our Adventure Guides are leading free nature-related programs at our nature centers this summer! Nature Center Adventures connect New Yorkers of all ages to nature through experiential learning. Nature Center Adventure programs include scavenger hunts, nature crafts and games, and getting up close and personal with our nature center animals. Programs vary by location.
Storytime in the Secret Garden @ Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden
Classic tales for kids, in a fairy-tale garden! Your children will feel swept away by the castle towers and shrubbery maze in the newly-restored Connie Gretz Secret Garden while they listen to engaging readings of favorite stories.
