Hey-Looking for something fun to do for the rest of the summer before school starts? Want to try out kayaking? Know how to kayak, but cannot find any free places on Staten Island? Kayak Staten Island provides free public kayaking. Kayak Staten Island is a volunteer organization that provides free kayaking for the public in Staten Island. The location is 850 Page Ave. Upcoming dates are on Saturday, August 13th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and Sunday, August 28th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Participants must sign a waiver before kayaking. Children under 18 must be with an adult, and their parent must sign their waiver. Equipment is given at the location. Sit-on-top kayaks, life jackets, and paddles are given. It will be advised to wear clothes and footwear that can get wet. Want to play table tennis, but do not have the equipment to play at home – visit Greenbelt Recreation Center. Greenbelt Recreation Center provides a table tennis room available from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm every Saturday and Sunday and 6:30 am to 9:30 am on weekdays. To enter Greenbelt Recreation Center, you will need a membership. However, youth under 18, as well as young adults 18 to 24 can obtain free membership.

Want to enjoy some free movies? West New Brighton Library has Teen Movie Monday every Monday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Join each Monday and enjoy a different movie screening. This event is perfect for ages 13 to 18. Upcoming dates for Teen Movie Monday are August 15th, August 22nd, and August 29th. If want something to do on a Monday afternoon, and love movies, remember to join during the upcoming dates at West New Brighton Library!

Interested in farming? Want to try some organic fresh produce – visit Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden at Gazebo Road for the Heritage Farm Stand Saturdays. The Heritage Farm Stand Saturdays are held every Saturday until November 19th from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM by Snug Harbor. You will

have the chance to explore fresh produces, learn about the week’s new crops, and how to prepare these crops from the friendly staff at the farm. Produces are grown using organic techniques. You can also drop off any food scraps here for the NYC Compost Project. If you are interested, remember to bring your friends and families, and enjoy and learn about fresh produces!

 

Want to enjoy some short films from filmmakers in NYC and around the world? Remember to check out the Staten Island Summer of Shorts Film Festival on Saturday, August 27th from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM hosted by Historic Port Richmond Preservation Association. The festival would be located at 54 Port Richmond Avenue Staten Island, NY 10302. You will have the chance to view 10 short films from NYC and around the globe. Filmmakers and casts will start walking the red carpet at 5:00 PM, and screenings of short films will begin at 6:00 PM. There would be a Q&A with the directors and filmmakers right after the screening. A People’s Choice Award would also be given to the filmmaker with the most votes by the audience at the end of the evening. It will cost $10 to enter.

Only 18+ are allowed to enter the festival. This festival is a fundraiser for the non-profit 501c3 organization, Historic Port Richmond Preservation Association.
