Adult Reading Practice Group
The Adult Learning Centers of the New York Public Library are pleased to
offer a new basic reading group on Fridays from 10:00-11:30 am at the St.
George Adult Learning Center.
This teacher-led group works best for adults who are native speakers of
English, or who are advanced English speakers who only struggle with
literacy. This group goes up to a third-grade reading level.

Tavern Terrace Outdoor Concert Series

Beer, barbecue, and live music all summer long!
Staten Island’s biggest backyard barbecue returns for another fun-filled season at Historic Richmond Town’s Main Village site. The Tavern Terrace will be open for the season beginning May 31. The Tavern Terrace Beer Garden features a selection of hand-crafted ales and lagers from Staten Island’s famed Flagship Brewery, and delectable smoked classics from Corner House BBQ, winner of the People’s Choice Award at the KCBS BBQ Cook-off and Uncorked!
The Terrace will be open Friday and Saturday evenings all summer long, featuring live music each Saturday! The Tavern Terrace at Historic Richmond Town is fun for the entire family!
Bring a blanket and have a picnic! Enjoy classic outdoor games and cool down at Egger’s Ice Cream Parlor with a sweet treat!
Campfire Great Kills Beach Staten Island

The National Park Service will host a blazing campfire on the beach that will include an
evening of music and stories. Bring a blanket or beach chair.
Observing: Hunter’s Point Park
Aug 16 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm
The AAA observes on the two successive Fridays a month when the Moon is in the evening sky. We set up our telescopes just west of the oval, at the far west end of Borden Avenue, starting around sunset.

Saturday Zoofaris

The Staten Island Zoo is happy to introduce our Saturday Zoofari program. We have created six exciting programs for children in PreK through 6th grade. This is a four hour (10am – 2pm) drop off program at the zoo.
Please pack a lunch for the day. There is no refrigeration for the lunches at the zoo so the lunches need to be non-perishable.
You can register for any number of sessions or all six! There is a 15% discount on the total price if you register for all six sessions.

NYRR Open Run: Conference House Park @ Visitor Center (in Conference House Park)
Open Run is a community-based, volunteer-led running initiative bringing free weekly runs and walks to local neighborhood parks, across all five boroughs of NYC. All runs are directed by volunteers and are free to all participants. The finish line is open until the last person is done. The courses vary based on the park, but the courses are between 2.5 and 3 miles long. Participants are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the run and to leave their valuables at home – bag check is not provided. No need to do anything before the run, just show up. Open to all ages, experience levels, walkers, strollers, dogs: All are welcome! This program is in coordination with NYC Parks’ Community Parks Initiative.

Noble Maritime Collection: Sea Shanty Session

Led by the Folk Music Society of New York, this program is really gaining in popularity and offers a great opportunity to experience authentic, time-honored maritime songs in an appropriately historic setting. We are pleased to host a free concert series by Viva Voce/the Staten Island Philharmonic outside in High Rock Park – under our tall trees! Bench seating is available, or you are welcome to bring a lawn chair.
There is a five-minute walk along a paved road to the stage area within the park. There is also limited parking closer to the stage for those who are unable to walk the distance. Our parking assistants will direct you. This event is free. Program is subject to change.
